Legal Sub-Project

The legal sub-project addresses the legal issues surrounding basic research into phage therapy, as well as the legal issues relating to the development, manufacture and authorisation of phage-based medicinal products.

The findings of the legal sub-project are therefore initially relevant to answering the question of what legal framework – including that under the Nagoya Protocol – applies to the use and exploitation of phages when they are used commercially outside the country in which they were discovered.

Furthermore, the findings of the sub-project contribute in particular to the legal classification of phage therapeutics and, in doing so, help to clarify the extent to which proposals for legislative amendments are necessary to regulate the research and clinical use of phage therapeutics.

The legal sub-project is based at Martin Luther University.
